Washington DT Onwuzurike opts out of 2020 season

Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike opted out of the 2020 season Thursday to prepare for the NFL draft.The 6-foot-3, 288-pound senior is ranked among the top four draft-eligible prospects at his position by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay.”I am confident and ready to step into the next phase of life. I’ve decided to forego this season and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft,” Onwuzurike said in a video message posted on Twitter. “I’ll be dedicating the rest of my time to focus on being the most dominant player in the NFL.”A preseason All-American, Onwuzurike is on the preseason watch lists for the Outland Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award.He earned first-team All-APac-12 honors in 2019 with 45 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks in 13 games (12 starts). His career totals included 95 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 39 games for the Huskies.
