Fired coach Majerle sues Grand Canyon

Dan Majerle, fired as Grand Canyon University’s head basketball coach in March after his first losing season, is suing the school.Majerle’s attorney, Dana Hooper, told the Arizona Republic that the coach is seeking pay he was owed under his contract.”Dan just wants what is fair,” Hooper said in an email to the newspaper. “This isn’t the route Dan wanted to go, but he had no other option.”Grand Canyon executive director of public relations Bob Romantic said in a statement, in part, “GCU was surprised to learn through members of the media that former coach Dan Majerle has apparently filed a lawsuit against the University. … We regret that Coach Majerle’s tenure had to end the way it did, but the University is prepared to defend itself and its decision if necessary should Coach Majerle decide to continue with litigation.”Majerle, 54, lost his job on March 17 after the Antelopes went 13-17 in the 2019-20 season.Almost exactly seven years earlier, the former Phoenix Suns player took over the Grand Canyon program as the Antelopes prepared for their first season as a Division I team.
