NCAA suspends BYU F Childs nine games

The NCAA upheld a nine-game suspension for BYU forward Yoeli Childs for mistakes he made while testing the NBA draft waters this spring.Childs, the Cougars’ leading scorer last season, did not submit the appropriate paperwork and received impermissible expenses while working with an agent.”There was some confusion with this new process, and I made decisions that have caused an outcome that none of us like,” Childs said Friday. “I just want everyone to know that my intent was never to do something wrong.”The two-time All-West Coast Conference selection decided in May to return for his senior season. The school said Childs had paid back all the expenses, with interest, but the NCAA rejected BYU’s appeal. Childs will have to sit out the first nine games in 2019-20.
